Kindred Roots Holistic Health

Holistic health center · Simpsonville, SC

A thoughtful team of practitioners behind a purple, sparkly, print-and-fax website. Rebuilt to feel calm and credible, with online booking front and center.

kindredrootshealth.com
The redesigned Kindred Roots homepage — a sage hours bar, a sprout-and-roots logo, the serif headline "Care that treats the whole you." with a handwritten "breathe easy" note, Book a visit and Meet Nora buttons, review stars, an arched illustrated portrait of founder Nora Ashby, L.Ac., with a next-opening card, and three service cards with line icons and starting prices.
The old Kindred Roots homepage — a GeoCities-style page on a starry purple night sky with rainbow lettering, rainbow dividers, a pixelated photo, an Enter Site button, a guestbook link, and a link to print-and-fax patient forms.

The problem

A great business, hiding behind its website.

  1. 01

Rainbow text, sparkles, and an "Enter site" button made licensed practitioners look less credible than they are.

  2. 02

New patients had to print, fill out, and fax forms before their first visit.

  3. 03

A long list of therapies with no explanation of what each one actually helps with.

  4. 04

No way to see open appointments or book without calling.

What changed

New design. New words. Same great business.

Old headline

Namaste and Welcome!

New headline

Care that treats the whole you.

Design

  • A calm sage-and-sand palette that feels like a deep breath.
  • Online booking connected directly to the practitioners' calendars.
  • The founder front and center — a warm portrait, a name, and a credential — before any list of therapies.
  • A team page with real faces and credentials, so first-timers know who they'll meet.
  • Digital intake forms — no printer, no fax machine.

Copy

  • A messaging session to find the clinic's real promise: unhurried, whole-person care.
  • Plain-English service pages that explain what each treatment helps with and what a first visit feels like.
  • A reassuring "New patients" page that answers the nervous questions before they're asked.

Concept redesign: a fictional business used to demonstrate my process. These are design outcomes, not measured client results.

The situation

Kindred Roots is a small team of licensed practitioners — acupuncture, massage, nutrition — led by founder Nora Ashby, a licensed acupuncturist. They take their work seriously. Their website didn’t. The purple gradients and sparkles said “psychic hotline,” and the print-and-fax intake process was losing new patients before they ever walked in.

The approach

This was a Signature project, so it started with a messaging session: who comes here, what are they worried about, and what makes this clinic different? The answer was clear. People come because they feel rushed and unheard elsewhere. So the whole site is built around one idea: unhurried care for the whole person.

The design follows the words — calm, spacious, and trustworthy — with booking always one tap away.

What it’s built to do

This is a concept redesign, so no invented numbers. It’s built to make first-time patients feel safe booking online, to let the practitioners’ credentials speak for themselves, and to fill the calendar without adding work to the front desk.
