Poole & Schmidt, P.A.

Law firm · Greenville, SC

A respected two-partner firm still greeting clients with a Flash intro and a wall of disclaimers. Redesigned to feel calm, credible, and human — for people on one of the worst days of their lives.

pooleschmidtlaw.com
The redesigned Poole & Schmidt homepage — a dark navy page with brass accents, the centered headline "Hurt. Worried. Unsure. We'll take it from here.", Free consultation and Meet our attorneys buttons, a trust line (free consultations, no fee unless we win, se habla español), a fine gold line drawing of Greenville's Liberty Bridge, and three practice areas with short descriptions.
The old Poole & Schmidt homepage — a black page with a maroon "Flash intro" box, a pixelated gavel photo, glowing gold italic lettering, a half-finished loading bar, a Skip Intro link, and a block of tiny gray legal disclaimers.
BeforeAfter

Drag the handle, or focus it and use your arrow keys.

The problem

A great business, hiding behind its website.

  1. 01

Visitors had to sit through a "loading" intro (or find the Skip link) before seeing anything useful.

  2. 02

The intro needed a plugin that phones and modern browsers no longer support — so most visitors saw a blank box.

  3. 03

"Aggressive representation" tone felt cold to people dealing with an injury, a divorce, or a death in the family.

  4. 04

Practice areas, the free consultation, and the phone number were buried below a wall of disclaimers.

What changed

New design. New words. Same great business.

Old headline

Aggressive Representation. Proven Results.

New headline

Hurt. Worried. Unsure. We'll take it from here.

Design

  • Deep navy and brass — serious and trustworthy without feeling like a dusty law library.
  • A centered, editorial layout that feels calm and gives the words room to breathe.
  • The free consultation and phone number in view from the first second, on every screen size.
  • Practice areas laid out plainly so people find their situation in one glance.

Copy

  • A headline that names how clients actually feel, then promises relief.
  • "You'll talk to an attorney, not a call center" — the firm's real advantage, said out loud.
  • Plain-English practice area pages, with required disclaimers moved where they belong instead of up front.

Concept redesign: a fictional business used to demonstrate my process. These are design outcomes, not measured client results.

The situation

Poole & Schmidt have practiced in Greenville for over twenty-five years. Their clients trust them, and referrals keep them busy. But their website was a relic: a Flash intro with a loading bar, gold glowing text, and a block of disclaimers that read like a warning label. On a phone, most visitors saw nothing at all.

The approach

People looking for a lawyer are usually scared, stressed, or grieving. They don’t want to be impressed. They want to feel safe, understood, and sure of the next step. So the new site is quiet and confident: dark, spacious, and focused on one clear action, a free consultation.

The copy drops the tough-guy tone. It speaks to how clients actually feel, then tells them exactly what happens when they call.

What it’s built to do

This is a concept redesign, so I’m not inventing numbers. It’s built to make a nervous first-time visitor feel comfortable picking up the phone, to explain each practice area without legalese, and to match the firm’s real reputation for calm, steady counsel.
